Earlier today the Pajhwok news agency reported that Afghan special forces conducted an operation in the Helmand Province. The operation was to free prisoners held by the extremist Taliban group.
They reported the events on Twitter this morning but didn’t elaborate further at the time.
The operation resulted in 101 people being released. This is a great result for the country as they battle not only the Taliban but numerous other extremist groups that are all battling for power in the war-torn country.
Expect the Taliban to hit back with attacks in the future but with the increased training and skills the Afghan special forces have been collecting and building on it’s making each operation they do a little bit more comfortable with regards to their experience.
This will be great for their confidence also as they will look to keep fighting with the Taliban to wipe them out for good. It’s a long, slow process but progress is progress.
Recruits are still not joining up in the numbers that would they would like. Partly due to not having an interest in it of course. Fear of Taliban will surely still play a part as well. Bombings at recruitment centers and training camps will increase the numbers of young men wanting to join but ultimately staying away.
In the case of this operation though it’s another notch on the victory board against the terrorists so a bloody good day all around.
